Regional Model Forest Network for Asia
Website_Asia_January_06.jpg

Model forest development in Asia began in 2000 through core support provided by the IMFNS, FAO and the government of Japan. Initially, the Asia Regional Network consisted of China, Thailand, the Philippines and Myanmar (the latter through FAO support exclusively). Since that time, Indonesia has created two model forest sites, India established the Kodagu Model Forest, and Japan’s Kyoto prefecture plans to launch its first model forest in 2006.

The successful model forest program developing across Asia confirms that large-scale partnerships for sustainable development can work in a variety of cultures, landscapes and economic scenarios. What’s more, as we have seen in regional model forest networks across Canada and Latin America, regional-level networking is essential for knowledge-sharing, strengthening partnerships, saving time and resources, and accelerating innovations in SFM.

As the Regional Network in Asia continues to grow, so too will this website. By following the links below you can find out more about:

NOTE: The Asia Regional Model Forest Network is a sub-site of the IMFN website hosted by IDRC. Each model forest develops and maintains its own content. The site operates primarily in English, with translation into local languages when supported by the server.
