Model Forests were initially established in Asia through funds from the government of Japan, with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). China recently agreed to host the Regional Model Forest Network there. During a 2008 meeting, members of the Asia Network agreed on two common priority areas of interest: ecological goods and services and integrated landscape management.
